Campers entering first to fourth grade in September are assigned to our Junior Division, and participate in a carefully designed program that is sensitive to their needs and interests. Close supervision, noncompetitive atmosphere, diversified activity schedule, patient instruction, caring and supportive counselors, and mature guidance from division directors are the characteristics that define our junior division program.
Each cabin is provided a weekly activity schedule that is geared to the campers’ age. The schedule is different each day of the week. Juniors travel to activities with their cabinmates under the direct supervision of a counselor. Participating together in cabin groups not only strengthens cabin camaraderie, but also ensures close supervision throughout the day. The typical daily schedule includes one activity period for ARC swim instruction, one for recreational swim, and a variety of land sports and creative arts for the remaining periods.
Our structured program for Juniors lends itself to a safe gradual progression in each activity. Instruction is patient and thorough with due regard for both safety and enjoyment. Generally, the activity program emphasizes instruction during the first-half of each period, and recreation for the remaining portion.
To provide individual flexibility within the cabin’s structured schedule, certain periods offer two or more activities. These activity sites are always within close proximity of one another in order to maintain close supervision. For instance, the ‘field sports’ activity offers t-ball, kickball, and softball. Each of these activities take place on the same athletic field, and campers remain within eyeshot of their counselors.
Each cabin in the junior division is staffed with a minimum of two college-aged counselors. These staff members have been carefully chosen to work with the junior division after being evaluated through our screening process and counselor orientation. They were selected for their ability to provide warm mature guidance, and through our observations they demonstrated the necessary skills required to be a junior division counselor.
We’re so confident in our Junior Program, we guarantee it! Our First-Time Camper Guarantee promises a fun and positive camp experience. That is, if your first-time camper departs Cayuga for any reason prior to the end of his session, Cayuga will refund your tuition for the days your child missed camp. That’s a promise!
