We are very serious about our preventive health care practices and make every effort to ensure all campers remain healthy during their stay. Campers are screened by our medical staff upon arrival, during their stay, and before their departure, and Wellness Assessment Forms for each camper are completed biweekly by the Division Director. The campers are supervised daily for personal cleanliness and proper grooming by their cabin counselors. Camp policy requires everyone to practice good hygiene etiquette, shower daily, brush teeth twice daily, and wash hands multiple times throughout the day. Hand sanitizer is provided in the dining halls and at all program areas. No effort is spared to keep your child healthy.
Each campus has a Health Center staffed 24-7 with medical personnel who provide first-aid and minor treatment. All medications are stored under lock & key, and distributed by the camp’s professional medical staff. Each Health Center consists of a treatment room, isolation room, kitchenette, and separate sleeping quarters (with private bathrooms) for boys and girls.
For over 60 years the Buynak Family has provided thousands of children an opportunity to grow in a safe and healthy camp environment. Supervision, security, and safety procedures are an integral part of our 24-hour daily operation. Camp staff are trained in safety procedures regarding first-aid, epipen use, fire extinguisher use, as well as off-camp trip procedures, the camp's emergency communication plan, and the like. Activity Instructors are trained and qualified prior to the arrival of our campers, and are evaluated on an ongoing basis to ensure instruction is provided in accordance with Cayuga's safety standards. Program sites are inspected daily for potential hazards, and the camp's equipment is of the best institutional quality available. In addition, each camper participates in a brief orientation for reviewing safety procedures (fire drills) and camp rules. Safety is #1 at Camp Cayuga!
Cayuga’s medical staff includes a Health Supervisor, 6 to 8 licensed nurses, and 2 assistants. They monitor the health and well-being of all campers and staff on a daily basis, and reside in private rooms in the Health Centers. Our medical professionals are experienced in pediatrics and emergency care, many of whom have been with Cayuga for several years. The county hospital and local medical clinics are located only 10 minutes from camp.
