Covid-19 Health Plan

SUMMER 2020 REPORT

Camp Cayuga operated in Summer 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic. Covid-19 protocols and program modifications were implemented in accordance with CDC and Pennsylvania guidelines to keep our camp population safe. Our efforts proved to be worthwhile. After being quarantined at home for months, the children flourished at camp. They made new friends, had fun, and gained an appreciation for playing outdoors. Parents expressed their sincere gratitude for our efforts, which reassured our staff and made their experience more rewarding than ever. It was a historic summer! We built a virus-free bubble around camp, remained safe & healthy, and returned home covid-free. In fact, Summer 2020 was one of our healthiest summers ever!

SUMMER 2021 Report

This past summer was more challenging. While we were more accustomed to wearing masks & practicing hygiene etiquette, most campers & staff were unable to isolate at home prior to arriving at camp. Due to the fact we were not quarantining at home, the risk of covid entering camp was higher. However, testing was more readily available. We performed ongoing testing at camp, and our campers & staff were tested once a week on average. Our entire camp population tested negative throughout the eight-week season, except for three campers. Contact tracing was performed, and those who had ‘contact’, were quarantined/separated from the general population and provided a different activity schedule. The campers who tested positive were sent home, as well as the campers who came in contact with them during their quarantine. Our protocols successfully prevented the virus from spreading.

    SUMMER 2022

Thank you for your interest in our summer program. We are preparing to address the ongoing pandemic in a similar fashion to Summer 2020 and 2021 by creating a covid-free environment. The policies and procedures that successfully kept our population safe & healthy will be implemented again in 2022. However, a lot can happen between now and opening day, so our protocols will be adjusted as the condition of public health, vaccination/mask mandates, and therapeutic measures change.

Rest assured, we are constantly monitoring the situation, sharing best practices, and communicating with our colleagues and advisors to ensure we protect our camp population, while keeping our program active and vibrant. We have the appropriate supervisory staff to carry out an effective plan to prevent Covid-19 from entering our camp community and, should that fail, we have procedures in place to detect the virus early, contain it, and care for those infected.

While we do not know the future status of Covid-19, we can assure you our plan will create and maintain a virus-free environment to protect our campers and staff. We are confident Summer 2022 will be safe, healthy, and fun - just like it was in 2020 and 2021.
